At St Andrew's School, we believe that Geography empowers students to understand the complex and interconnected world around them. Through the study of people, places and environments, we inspire curiosity, foster critical thinking and develop informed, responsible global citizens who are equipped to engage with the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
Our Geography Department is committed to delivering an engaging, ambitious and inclusive curriculum for all students from Year 7 to Year 11. We aim to nurture a lifelong interest in the world by providing opportunities for students to investigate real-world issues, explore diverse cultures and develop a deeper understanding of both local and global environments.
Our Key Goals

Key stage 3
Our Key Stage 3 curriculum is bespoke and tailored to our local area, enabling students to explore geographical concepts through contexts that are relevant and meaningful to them. The curriculum remains flexible, allowing staff to incorporate significant current affairs and emerging news stories as they occur, ensuring that Geography remains dynamic, relevant and engaging.
Throughout Key Stage 3, students build a strong foundation of geographical knowledge, understanding and disciplinary skills. This carefully sequenced curriculum develops students' ability to think geographically, interpret data, evaluate evidence and understand complex human and physical processes. By the end of Key Stage 3, students are fully prepared to successfully engage with the demands of the AQA GCSE Geography specification, having developed the confidence, skills and subject knowledge required to thrive at Key Stage 4.

Key stage 4
At St Andrew's School, we follow the AQA GCSE Geography specification, providing students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to understand and engage with the world's most pressing challenges. Through the study of both physical and human geography, students develop critical thinking, enquiry and decision-making skills while applying their learning to real-world issues.
Students investigate a range of physical geography topics including tectonic hazards, weather hazards, climate change, tropical rainforests, hot deserts, rivers and coasts, exploring the processes that shape our natural environment and the impacts these have on people and places.
In human geography, students study The Changing Economic World, The Changing Urban World and Resource Management, examining how populations, economies and resources influence life at local, national and global scales.
Throughout the course, students engage with contemporary case studies, develop strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and learn to make informed judgements about some of the most significant environmental and societal issues facing the world today. GCSE Geography at St Andrew's equips students with valuable knowledge and transferable skills that support success both within education and beyond.
